What is a physical therapist?

What can physical therapy do for me?
The practice of physical therapy has evolved significantly since it was created in the early 1900's. Today, physical therapists provide services that help restore function, improve mobility, relieve pain, and prevent or limit permanent disabilities.
What should I wear?
Something comfortable. If a specific area, such as your knee, neck , or shoulder requires treatment, please make sure it is easily accessible.
What should I expect at my first appointment?
You should download the forms listed on the Patient Forms category of this website, complete them and bring them with you. If you do not have access to print forms, please contact us by phone and forms will be mailed to you. At the appointment, you will be asked a number of questions regarding your current problem and past medical history. Next, a physical examination will provide a look at strength, flexibility, and other necessary tests to determine the cause of your pain. You will be informed of the findings and usually given some instructions or exercises to begin working on at home, as well as, some hands on treatment.
What should I expect at subsequent visits?
Your treatment session will depend on the findings of the initial examination, but may include; joint mobilization and soft tissue work as appropriate. Goals will be regularly assessed, as well as, re-evaluation of strength, range of motion, etc.
Can I bill my insurance for reimbursement of my out of pocket expenses?
EW Physical Therapy is an out-of-network, fee-for-service provider. It is not a participating provider with Medicare or any other insurance and, therefore, NO insurance reimbursement is available.
Is my health information secure?
EW Physical Therapy will maintain your privacy to the highest standards and may use or disclose personal health information for the purposes of carrying out treatment, obtaining payment, evaluating the quality of services provided and any administrative operations related to treatment or payment.
Are my visits limited since I am paying cash?
Yes, and no. Since you are paying cash, you can pay for as many visits as you wish. However, you cannot be seen without a prescription which specifies the frequency and duration of treatment. The therapist may need to contact your doctor to request permission for additional visits.
